Fun for Kids
Ideas for kids when on walks
Since the pandemic started I have made it a point to take my kids out for a walk around the block each morning. Below are a couple of things that I have found that can make it a little more lively.
Simple Scavenger Hunt

My children are 5 and 2 and this was fun for both of them. Since we have been walking around our block each day, there were a couple of specific things that I knew they could find, so I would suggest adding things you know will be there. For example, I added rocks with stripes because a couple of houses down there is a house that has special rocks with stripes on them.
Of note:
-
Having pictures helps for our non-reading friends.
-
I didn't think of this, but snails are only out when it is wet out - I should have added "snail trails" if we didn't see any actual snails.
-
They were excited about using the homemade binoculars, but it didn't last long outside and I held on to them most of the time.
-
I was originally planning on doing the whole list with the both of them, but they got the idea to each hold a sheet of paper and they would look for each item on their own sheet.
Finding shapes
I thought it might be fun to select a shape before each walk and try and find items that look like those shapes. For example, sidewalks are usually broken up in squares, trash can lids are either square shaped or circles.
